Bark in the Park

The week after we got back from our trip to DC, Greg's friend at the Bulls called to let him know that they were having Bark in the Park that week.  We decided to go because when we went 2 years ago, we really enjoyed it.  I mean, our dogs act crazy initially because there are so many other dogs there, but then they get adjusted and end up relaxing.  Last time we went, I didn't pack water and a bowl for them to drink out of, and so we had to buy a bottle of water at the park for the dogs which was not ideal!

It's actually a pretty cool event, if you have a minor league (or major) baseball team near you, then check out their promotions schedule to see if they do a Bark in the Park.  They had a bunch of local dog daycares, and vets set up with tents and information.  The company that makes the "thundershirt" is actually based in Durham, so they had a booth also.  Penni got a toy from the thundershirt people that she is obsessed with.  Overall, we had a really good time, and it was so nice having this event in April instead of July so that the dogs (and humans) didn't get so hot!

Merry Christmas to Greg! Day 3

Sunday was the last day of our trip to DC.  We didn't have any major plans except going to the baseball game that afternoon.  When we got up, we talked with Jordan and decided to go do brunch at a place down the road from her apartment.  It was delicious!  Greg got belgium waffles with fruit, Jordan had a delicious fruit crisp, and I had a breakfast sandwich.

After brunch, we loaded up the car so that we would be ready to head home after the baseball game.  Then we walked over to the stadium.  On our way, we decided to stop at a newly opened restaurant/brewery, Gordon Biersch.  Greg had one of their beers, and Jordan and I had sangria!  It was a nice stop before the game, especially since we had nicer/better drinks for less than we would be paying at the stadium!

The game was fun!  The Braves played really well, so it was nice to watch them beat up on the Nationals!  We had good seats, and the weather was amazing!  The game was the perfect ending to our adventure in DC.

Here's an awful picture of Greg and I from the game.  I can't believe I'm actually posting it on the blog.

Merry Christmas to Greg! Day 1

This year, my gift to Greg for Christmas was a trip to Washington DC.  He had never been before, so I started squirreling money away back in October for this trip.  I made a little book for him to open on Christmas morning, that had pictures of the monuments, memorials, and big DC landmarks.  The final page of the booklet I had printed a copy of the Braves baseball schedule, and circled the dates that they were playing the Nationals in DC.  He was excited!

He looks ridiculous with the baseball cap and the toboggan on, but he had just opened those.  Here he is reading the little booklet that I made for him about our trip to DC.

We drove up Thursday night after work.  The drive was long because we kept running into night construction.  We were so glad when we finally arrived at my friend, Jordan's, apartment.  We are so thankful that she let us crash at her place for the weekend, and it was also wonderful getting to spend time with her!

Friday morning, it was raining and so we just took it easy.  We slept in, and took our time getting ready and by mid-day we were out and about!  We stopped by the Library of Congress, and then walked past the Capitol to meet up with friends that we had just found out were also in town! We met up with the Slighs and then headed over to the Museum of Natural History.  We didn't spend a ton of time there, but then we went to the Museum of American history.  I thought that the American History museum was much more interesting than the Natural History Museum.  We spent quite a bit of time looking around, and going through all the exhibits.  I loved the Star Spangled Banner, and all the dresses from the First Ladies.  After we finished up at the Museums we headed over to Pennsylvania Avenue to look at the White House, which was honestly, a total let down.  I hate that we couldn't schedule a tour.

We were really worn out, and our friend had texted us that he was a sport bar watching the Masters... So, of course we headed that way.  We hung out for a bit, had a snack and drinks, and then took the Metro back to Jordan's apartment.

Friday night we went to game 1 of the Nationals v. Braves series.  We didn't dress for the weather at the game, the wind was blowing and it was much colder than we had anticipated!  The Braves weren't playing as well as we thought they should be, and I was freezing, so we left after the 7th inning.  Umm, that was the wrong move for sure.  On the walk back to the apartment, I joked with Greg that they would probably come back and win it.  Well, they did and we missed it.  Greg was majorly disappointed, but he didn't hold it against me for too long.

Our seats were great!  I just wish that it had been slightly warmer, or less windy

Relaxing Weekend

We have had an insanely busy couple of weeks with the start of baseballs season, and the Bulls first home stand.  The week before the Bulls had their first home game Greg was working like crazy, he was staying at work until 9:00-11:00 pm!  So, we were both really excited with this home stand coming to an end on Friday.

Greg didn't have to work the game on Friday, so we had planned on going to the game and then going out with a few of the people that he works with afterwards.  The game was supposed to start at 7:05, and so I was going to go home and we would just go to the game together.  Well, we got some crazy rainy weather late that afternoon.  I got home, we cooked dinner, and we waited to hear what time the game would start.  Now, if you know me, you know that I'm not really a late night person.  I like going to bed early, and getting up early.  As we approached 9:00 pm I began to ask if we really wanted to go.  BUT Greg insisted.  They pulled the tarp off the field, we headed to the stadium and the game started at 9:05.  Not only did the game start late, but I felt like it was going SO SLOW.

We headed over to a bar that over looks the field and watched the end of the game with one of Greg's co-workers, and once the game was over we headed to a different bar where we were meeting everyone.  It was a lot of fun.  Everyone was unwinding, and I got to meet and interact with a few of his co-workers that I've wanted to get to know.  We rarely go out, so this was a treat!

Saturday slept in, and Greg really wanted to go to Joseph A. Bank because they were having a good sale, and my brother and sister in law gave him a gift card for Christmas.  We went and he decided to get a charcoal pin-stripped suit and a red paisley tie that he has wanted for a few months.  After that we went by some furniture stores because we are looking at buying a new couch and chair.  We have our eyes set on something, but we are trying to make sure it's a good price and that we can't find something we like better.

We stopped and got a RedBox on the way home.  We got The King's Speech.  I think that we both really liked it.  We also grilled burgers for dinner.

Sunday we didn't really do much.  We spent the afternoon at the pool (where we both got pretty sunburned, Greg is much worse than me).  The we went and got another movie!  We got The Kids Are Alright.  I was really disappointed.  I have pretty high expectations for films that are nominated for best picture, and to be honest...  I don't know how it go put into the same category as The Fighter and The King's Speech (the only two that we have seen that were nominated, but we are working our way down the list- I'm dying to see Black Swan).

All in all it was a wonderfully relaxing weekend, and I'm glad that Greg got to kick back.  He's been working really hard, so he needed some time off.  I hope you guys had a great weekend!

Welcome!

Hello blogger world,

I have always blogged with LiveJournal, but I feel that our community has faded due to recent events. SO, I decided to start fresh with a completely new blog. How does that sound to you? We are going to focus on updates on what is happening in our crazy life, yummy recipes that we try (and like), and I'm sure there will be plenty of updates on our adventures of parenting a puppy.

What's been happening lately? Let's start with Greg! Greg is on a marketing team with some of his classmates called GrandSlam Marketing. They do all kinds of different things for the GSUbaseball team. So, he has been spending WAY more time in Statesboro this semester than he had to last semester. He goes up for baseball games every weekend. What does he do up there? Sometimes he does merchandise, and sometimes he does on-field promotions, and I think today he did public relations (or something like that) for the first time. It has been a lot of work, but he is getting some really great experience.

I've had the flu since Thursday night. BOO! It has been pretty unpleasant. I had to call into work on Friday morning, and I have spent the whole weekend being lazy with the dogs (since Greg has been consumed with baseball games). I love my job, but it is not very fun catching what all the lovely babies bring to school.

Needless to say, I have not been cooking this weekend since I have not been eating anything. BUT, last weekend I was watching Food Network and I saw Giada De Laurentiis, and she was cooking a meal that looked absolutely delicious! It was Penne in Almond Sauce. It was very good, the texture was different, and it was just good to do pasta in a different way! And, it was super easy to make, especially if you use already cooked chicken rather than having to cook it yourself. You should totally check it out, here is a picture of how it turned out:

That's all for now, I better get back to resting on the couch because tomorrow I must return to the crazy babies! We've got to pay the bills somehow :-)
